JANUARY

Argumentation & Debate

Debaters must be eager to learn. This debate forum will help participants overcome fear of public speaking and improve critical thinking skills. Debaters will be coached on subject criteria research on supporting opposing resolutions. Debate teams will be judged on the following: confidence, engagement, delivery, and body language. All participants must attend required rehearsals.

FEBRUARY

Monologues in Black History

Monologues in black history are a series of speeches performed individually. Participants must embody themselves in the characters they portray. This event is open to all ages. Participants must present a speech soliloquy, or comedic monologue. Presentation may be presented as monologues, duologues or triologues. All participants must attend required rehearsals.

APRIL

BHT Harlem Renaissance Fashion Week

Black History Theater Harlem Renaissance Fashion Week is a celebration of African American heritage. I is is celebration of self-respect, self expression, self discovery, who we are as a people and the continuation of a movement. All ages are welcome to participate. There are three fashion categories: Greek Fashion Show, BOB Fashion Show (Black Owned Business) and NAACP & Worship Assemblies.

JUNE

Black History Theater Workshop

This workshop is for participants 13 and up. Participants will produce and act in a summer workshop. Thespians will take courses in African American Studies, Theater 101 and Theater 102. Theater 101 covers the history and terminology of theater and Theater 102 covers directing, producing staging, sound effect, costumes and sound effects. All participants must attend required rehearsals. Theater workshop hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

AUGUST

Miss. BHT African American Academic Scholar (AAAS) Pageant

This pageant is targeted to young ladies 14 to 18 years of age, 9th-12th grade. This pageant grooms young thespians for public speaking, interview skills, essay writing, community service, promoting social platforms, and current events. All participants must attend required rehearsals.

OCTOBER

Creative Writing Poetry Slam

This poetry slam is open to all ages. Poetry must be the original work of the creator. Poetry will be judged on the following criteria: subject, originality, rhyme, rhythm and phrasing. All participants must attend required rehearsals.

NOVEMBER

BHT Dinner Theater

This dinner theater production is open to all ages. Patrons will enjoy a catered meal as they watch the featured matinee. All participants must attend required rehearsals.
